Seagate Launches GoFlex Slim, 9mm Thick USB Hard Drive

We were impressed with Seagate’s 9mm-thick USB hard drive when we first spotted it at CES 2011 and now the storage company has made it official, launching the newly-named GoFlex Slim today. Initially available in only a 320GB capacity, the 7200-rpm USB 3.0 drive carries an MSRP of $99 is available immediately at major e-tailers such as Amazon.com as well as through Seagate’s site.

The initial drive works on both PCs and Macs, but a special Mac-only version that comes in HFS+ format and has a metallic finish that matches the Apple aesthetic will be coming out in May for the same $99 price. Because of its formatting, the Mac version will be able to support Apple Time Machine backup software.
